With a clear understanding of the unique properties of potash, Canpotex manages and directs the transportation and delivery of its products. Because Canpotex represents the entire Saskatchewan potash industry, it enjoys significant economies of scale on this side of the business.

The majority of Canpotex product moves in unit trains, from the mine sites in Saskatchewan, West through Vancouver, British Columbia and Portland, Oregon. Canpotex also ships potash East through Thunder Bay (the St. Lawrence Seaway), and has access to load ports on the Atlantic Coast and the Gulf of Mexico.

Storage capacity at the Ports of Vancouver and Portland, and at various warehouse facilities worldwide, allows Canpotex to maintain an inventory of about 350,000 tonnes of various grades of potash to ensure timely delivery to customers in peak periods of demand.

Canpotex is also actively involved in the ocean freight market as approximately 60% of its business is done on a cost and freight basis (CFR). CFR shipments provide Canpotex with the flexibility to combine cargoes (eg. potash and sulphur), and combine potash shipments where possible (eg. Malaysia and Indonesia) to minimize ocean freight costs.

Attending to the needs of customers, Canpotex ensures reliability of supply with access to 10 mines, a number of rail lines, state-of-the-art storage facilities, and several load port alternatives.
